Miranda Tufnell and Eva Karczag

Friday 29th June – Sunday 1st July 2012; 10:00-17:00

3 Day Workshop

When we are fully present in the immediate moment, without expecting anything or assuming anything, simply and playfully alert to possibilities, the world and our own presence within it becomes more alive and therefore full of surprises.

The workshop invokes this state of mind and body through fine tuning the senses and opening up our responsiveness in movement to what emerges.

Through body work and improvised movement the workshop is intended to deepen awareness of experiential anatomy, touch, and breath. Through a weave of story making and explorations in the body we allow ourselves to shift and change – become more fluid and metamorphic in how we see, move and dream.

Full rate £120 ¦ Independent artist £100 ¦ Student £80

Only available to book as a 3 day package.

Eva Karczag: Independent dance artist and educator. For the past four decades has practiced, taught and advocated explorative methods of dance making. Performs solo and collaborative work internationally, many of her collaborations involving links across the arts. Her performance work and her teaching are informed by dance improvisation and mindful body practices (including T’ai Chi Ch’uan and Qi Gong), the Alexander Technique (certified teacher), Ideokinesis, and Yoga. Since 1972, she has been a member of leading groups in the field of experimental dance, including the Trisha Brown Dance Company and Strider, and has taught dance at major colleges throughout the world. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree (Dance Research Fellow) from Bennington College, VT, USA (2004). Current activities include collaborating with Lisa Kraus and Vicky Shick on the development of a long-term performance project ‘Red Thread’, inspired by a model of women’s quilting circles; collaborating with visual artist Chris Crickmay and composer Sylvia Hallett on ‘Promenade’, a series of improvised durational performance/installations; and collaborating on the duet, Slapping Legs and Stepping Out, with Gaby Agis.

Miranda Tufnell is a dance artist, writer and teacher in movement and imagination.  She is also an Alexander teacher and Craniosacral Therapist.  Her work is concerned with improviasation, embodiment, and our sensuous and imaginative connection to the world around us.  With Chris Crickmay she has co-authored two handbooks on sourcing creative work entitled Body Space Image (1990) and A Widening Field (2004).  From 1990-2004 she worked part-time within the NHS for a GP surgery and set up a Breath of Fresh Air, a dance and health project for people living with chronic illness.  She recently produced the ‘Handbook for Dancers Working in Health’ (2010) commissioned by Foundation for Community Dance.  She has two sons and currently lives near Oxford.  Most recently she has been Visiting Tutor at UCLAN (University of Central Lancashire) on their MA Dance and Somatic Wellbeing.
